Jaundice is a liver disorder most often seen in new born babies and it affects adults too. This is basically a yellowish pigmentation occurs due to damage of a chemical called bilirubin in blood and ceases the detoxification of liver.

Biluribin is a chemical which helps to break down the old blood cells and remove damage red blood cells in our body and flushed out by liver normally like other waste products.If the liver is unable to flush out the waste products, then the bilirubin in blood increases and becomes the cause for jaundice.

Modern medicines do not considered it as a disease, but as a symptom of liver disorder like liver infection, gallstones and cirrhosis of liver.

Symptoms Of Jaundice

The first symptom of this disorder is that the white part of the eyes becomes yellow and occurrence of stains in yellow color. The yellow color is first observed on the face and then it spreads all over the body within a short time.

There are number of other symptoms, which are as follows:

  • Weight loss
  • Appetite loss
  • Abdominal discomfort
  • Vomiting
  • Nausea
  • Lethargy
  • Fever
  • Dark yellow urine
  • Pain in the liver etc.

There are many reasons behind the increase of biluribin in our blood like gallstones, a tumor in the bile duct, pancreatic cancer, pregnancy, and break down of RBC that forms anemia and some infectious like malaria etc.

There are several home remedies to treat jaundice and protect liver from disorders. Some of them are shown below to increase the functionality of liver by increasing the flow of bile in bile duct.

Home Remedies For Jaundice

  1. Lemons

Lemons are filled with liver healing properties and can help you to treat jaundice. Lemons helps in more urine production, which in a way helps to remove all the toxins from body. It also improves the bile production and boosts mineral absorption in your body.

  • Mix a table spoon of lemon juice in a glass of warm water and drink it for two to three times in a day for two to three weeks.
  • Alternatively, you can also mix one half of lemon with a pinch of salt in a glass of warm water. Then drink it for two to three times in a day.
  1. Tomato Juice

Tomatoes contain a compound called lycopene which reduces liver injury and disorders of liver. It also increases the production of red blood cells by eliminating biluribin.

  • Boil one cup of water and add 4-5 tomatoes in it. Let them sit for 15 minutes then peel the skin of the tomatoes and crush them to extract the juice from it.
  • Drink this juice everyday on an empty stomach for fast recovery from jaundice, if possible add some amount of salt or pepper powder it.
  1. Sugarcane

Home Remedies To Treat Jaundice

Another quick remedy to treat jaundice is sugarcane. You face sudden drop in your glucose levels when you are suffering with jaundice, so sugarcane helps to increase the levels of glucose in your body.Plus, it is completely alkaline in nature and maintains low acid levels and keeps you hydrated.

  • Make a glass of sugar cane juice and add a table spoon of lemon in it. Mix it and drink it for three times in a day for better result.
  1. Turmeric

As we know turmeric has many benefits, as it contains cur cumin component which helps in detoxification of liver. It also prevents other harmful toxins from damaging the liver.

  • In a glass of warm water mix one quarter spoon of turmeric and drink this solution for 2 -3 times in a day for few weeks.
  • Alternatively, in a glass of warm water add a table spoon of lemon juice, quarter spoon of turmeric and cayenne powder and a table spoon of honey, mix it well and drink this solution for 2-3 times regularly for several weeks.
  1. Radish

Radish is another remedy for treating jaundice. It acts as a powerful detoxifier and helps to eliminate harmful toxins in your blood and waste including bilurubin from your body. The leaves of radish are useful for treating jaundice. Extract juice from radish leaves and drink a glass of radish leaves juice regularly every morning for ten days for fast recovery from jaundice.
